Digital TV Station
The N9SGG TV station is on the air at 447.000 MHz. Pretty cool, eh? We use sdrangle as the app to create the DVS-2 video modulation to send to the radio. 30W output to the antenna is what we send to the discone antenna.

Recently, I put together a raspberry pi3 and an RTL-SDR V3 receiver. Pictures to follow.
Using a RTL_SDR device I did a RF survey from 100Mhz to 1 Ghz and created heatmaps of the results. Here they are ,,,, Taken in Appleton Wisconsin
liat is an application that will List It At the Top! Try using it as a companion to the legendary tail utility when watching a log file. It was written to list text that is most recent on the first line (top) and push the rest of the screen down. Instead of pushing the screen…
WLOD is back on the air WLOD is now very different from the analog transmitters used thirty years ago. Now everything is digital up to the FM transmitter. After that it goes out over the air. The studio and transmitter are at my house. The server is in the cloud hosted on an AWS server…
I went to visit the VLBI antenna near Cedar Rapids, IA one afternoon and took pictures. Here they are.
So, I need to conduct an RF survey of a ground site. The survey’s purpose is to determine if there is any QRM in the area of a ground site receiving UHF radio signals for GNSS with RTK radios. What is QRM? It’s an amateur radio shorthand for man made noise encountered when trying to…
This log periodic antenna is in Cedar Rapids, IA and is on the location of where Arthur Collins started his radio business. It’s one of the original plants that built shortwave radios and is part of the ham radio club there. It is very large.
This article is the first in a series, documenting my journey building a Tayloe Demodulator as an HF radio receiver. This article focuses on a Spice simulation of a Tayloe demodulator. The schematic shown in Figure 1 was created with LTSpice, a well know Spice circuit simulator and schematic capture application. I recommend it. Simulation…
